Giving Venti some loving
Venti sat out all of last summer while I was wrapped up playing around with the new gunning dory. I finally got her out of the garage and dusted her off yesterday. Giving her some love and attention and getting … Continue reading

That’s it
That’s it – I’m gonna quit. I closed out my sailing season for this year today with a short sail at my favorite water hole. The water is getting pretty cold on the legs when launching and retrieving the boat, … Continue reading

Pretty sure
Yep, I’m pretty much sure the fun is over for this year. I did get out yesterday for what will most likely be my last sailing trip for the season. It was a good day though – temps in the … Continue reading

New video
I took the tripod out to the lake today and set up the camera on shore – not the best solution, but I don’t really have anybody to video for me, so this is the best I can really do … Continue reading

Sailing action
I recently got a little cheap video camera. Tried it out on the water today. My video editing skills are absolutely zero now – so it’s just a video – not a Hollywood production. It is proof that Venti actually floats and … Continue reading

Good day
After being sidelined for a while following a small surgery, I finally got back out sailing today. Probably the best day aboard Venti yet. The winds were 10 to 15 mph gusting to 20. Good thing I have the bailing … Continue reading

Successful jib
I can now officially call the new balanced jib a success! I spent a good portion of the Memorial Day weekend sailing and the jib worked great – Venti didn’t miss a tack. The larger jib has increased her power noticeably. … Continue reading

The third time is a charm
I’m still toying with this balanced jib, trying to get it right. On the first outing with the new jib – she would not tack at all. So I moved my pivot point forward about 4 inches, and finally got another try at … Continue reading

Marlinspike ropework
I tried my hand at some fancy rope work on the tiller. I think they call it a French whipping or something similar to that. This looks hard at first but it’s actually pretty simple – just half hitch, after … Continue reading
